Madison House, UVA Career Center, and UVA Learning in Action Present Serving Society Conference
In an effort to advise Madison House volunteers and UVA students on careers in public service, Madison House partnered with UVA Career Center and UVA Learning in Action to present the first annual Serving Society Conference.
The conference provided nearly 60 UVA students in attendance the opportunity to connect and network with UVA alumni working in these fields. Presenters and featured speakers introduced students to careers in social entrepreneurship, NGOs, nonprofits, social work, counseling and religious/spiritual organizations.
Sarah Olijar, Madison House's Medical Services Head Program Director presented information to conference attendees regarding her experience managing Medical Service's 600 volunteers. Sarad Davenport, Community Partner for Madison House's PLAY: After School Activities program and Executive Director of City of Promise, also presented to conference attendees and sat on a panel for question and answer sessions.
Students who attended the day-long conference expressed excitement, gratitude and appreciation for the event, citing it as a great opportunity to learn about entry-level jobs in nonprofits, how to practice self-care and how to pursue careers that build specific skill sets.
