Participate in Community-Engaged Learning

Madison House recognizes the transformative potential of community-engaged learning as an integral part of the public service infrastructure for University of Virginia student volunteers.

We are eager to serve faculty and support community-engaged learning experiences across the University through Madison House’s Community-Engaged Learning Initiative. We are always seeking additional ways to connect and support the important work of UVA faculty and stakeholders. We welcome any conversation about how to expand and deepen our work with you, students, and community partners.

For me, as a teacher, the biggest challenge is to bring together the experience outside of the classroom with what we do in class. Their experiences inform the curriculum, and we talk about what it means to be a volunteer.
— Esther Poveda Moreno, UVA Lecturer of Spanish

With support from the Jefferson Trust, Virginia Equity Center, and the UVA Parents Fund, Madison House’s Community Engaged Learning Initiative provides flexible, functional resources to faculty and staff engaged in community-based academic inquiry. Madison House partners with faculty, staff, labs, and centers at the University of Virginia to enhance the community-facing experience for students and scholars alike.
