Community Partnerships
Madison House is committed to building mutually beneficial relationships with organizations that provide leadership development opportunities for students while supporting community leaders in addressing varying needs of the community.
Our structure:
Madison House is a non-profit organization with a staff of full-time paid employees and graduate student fellows who work to advise our student leaders and connect with our community partners. When first applying to be a community partner, your primary contact will be one of these staff members. For our established programs, the primary point of contact is a Program Director, a student leader who works directly with the program’s volunteer coordinator to schedule and oversee opportunities for their volunteers. Each program is also placed into one of our four primary program tracks, with each track having a student leader known as a Head Program Director who is responsible for ensuring all programs within that track are running smoothly.
If your organization has ongoing, weekly volunteer placement opportunities suited to UVA students, please reach out by filling out an inquiry form.
Becoming a Community Partner
Application Deadlines:
We have two application windows during which community organizations not already partnering with Madison House can apply to partner. The summer window is before July 1. Inquiries made before July 1 will be considered for a partnership start date for the fall. Applications for spring placements are due by October 31 and inquiries made by then will be considered for a partnership start date in January.
Application Process:
Submit inquiry form → MH Staff review inquiry form → If a good fit, MH will reach out with next steps, which include a meeting to walk through a needs’ assessment, followed by an introduction to one of our phenomenal student leaders.
FAQ's
What if my volunteer needs request doesn't fit under Madison House?
Consider posting your service opportunity on UVA's Public Service website.
Does Madison House provide students with training and perform background checks before they volunteer, or am I responsible for that?
Our Education and Youth serving volunteers receive a general training focused on best practices around working with children and youth. Each student volunteer also undergoes a background check.
