Madison House is proud to be a founding partner of the new UVA Public Service Pathways program. The program integrates public service into the student experience at UVA through research and service opportunities, community collaboration, internships, and mentoring. Students who choose to complete the program will earn the designation of Presidential Public Service Scholar. More importantly, students will acquire valuable experience that supports their own unique pathways for a lifelong commitment to public service.
Public Service Pathways partners include the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Outreach, the UVA Career Center, Madison House, and other departments on Grounds. The Public Service pathways student advisory council is also a key player in the ideation and implementation of the program.
Madison House staff and student volunteers have been instrumental in planning this new initiative. Members of the student advisory council and planning team include:
Luke Hampton (CLAS ‘23), Head Program Director of Recreational Therapy
Catey Nash (BATTEN ‘23), Head Program Director of Animals and Environmental Programs
David-Aaron Roth, (EDUC ‘23) Public Service Pathways Student Leadership Coordinator and Madison House Doctoral Fellow
Dr. Rose Cole, Director of Community Engagement at Madison House
Madison House and its constituents are shaping the direct service experience at UVA, providing incoming first-year students ample avenues to engage with the Charlottesville community and surrounding areas in ethical and responsible ways. With a fifty-year history of strong relationships and trust within the greater Charlottesville community, Madison House will continue to play an essential role in shaping the program as it grows.
By training leaders and volunteers to engage thoughtfully in local public service, we are cultivating a network of impact-makers.
