The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Virginia is part of a national organization that seeks to contribute exciting experiences and applicable life skills through engaging programs. With three locations in Charlottesville, the Boys and Girls Clubs hope to serve the youth through their five core programs that target prevalent issues. These core areas include Education and Career Development, Character and Leadership Development, Health and Life Skills, the Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation.
With these nationally-recognized programs, the Boys and Girls Clubs successfully serve more than 2,000 youths annually. As the Clubs recently accepted five-year-olds into their after-school and summer programs, their rich programs can begin teaching children at an even earlier age. These opportunities range from fun outside activities where younger children can play sports and engage with volunteers, to events that focus on career advice and critical education of life skills for older teenagers. Clubfest, an annual fall program, is a great example of an outside community gathering where local volunteers and vendors support the Boys and Girls Clubs' family fun day, open to anyone in Charlottesville.
The STEM Olympics is another event that uses local volunteers as judges of various STEM-oriented competitions and events to encourage interest in these areas. As the Boys and Girls Clubs recently opened back up for public events, they are eager to reengage and reconnect with the community. As their calendar fills up with exciting opportunities this fall, the Clubs are also looking forward to welcoming volunteers back to their programs.
Madison House volunteers can anticipate more details to come for the aforementioned events, as well as a soon-to-come Career Prep program opportunity. This could potentially consist of monthly meetings with Club members to help build a plan for their future, offer specific guidance and advice for different career fields, and even aid in resume crafting.
